‘Heyele’ amulet for the defence of children against sickness. Eastern Europe. Late 19 – early 20 cent. Cast brass. Diameter: 3.4. The Hebrew letter hey is engraved in the centre; it is one of the letters constituting the name of God. The obverse also includes the inscription: ‘May this child grow up for Torah, the huppah, and good deeds’. The reverse contains a prayer against the evil eye and childhood diseases. Hebrew.
